Today Is The Day!

Today Is The Day!

Every morning I stumble out of bed with great resolve. Today is the day I will –— Clean the refrigerator. Clean off my desk and file the piles of paper overflowing onto the floor. Organize the laundry room. Take the recycles down to the trash room. Clean my bathroom top to bottom. Get groceries. Conduct a paper drive to eliminate all the magazines, newspapers, etc. collecting untouched. And the list goes on – and on.

My typical routine – I’ve read it’s important to have a routine during quarantine – is rise and shine at 7:00, put on shorts, tee-shirt and baseball cap and take dogs out for Walkies. 7:30 Come back, get coffee and sit on lanai to check email and text messages. 8:00 Take nap on lanai. 9:00 Wake up with Bodhi’s barking and feed dogs and myself. 10:00 Sit in front of TV to decide what to do – or not – for rest of day. (I’ve read that naps are very beneficial during times of stress.)

Today is different!

Somehow I woke up with a bit more energy and proclaimed: Today is the day that the Lord hath made. Let us get up and get moving!

Orange Cranberry Muffins

And so I did! 7:00 up and dressed and out for walkies. 7:30 back for coffee and sit on lanai to check email and text messages. 8:30 feed dogs. Now, here’s were the routine changes! By 9:30 I had muffins in the oven (It’s National Muffin Week), had exchanged numerous text messages with Mohammed who was doing my shopping at Fresh Market and coming up empty with numerous items on my list. Had emptied the dishwasher and taken the recycles down to the trash room. I’ve now delivered the warm muffins to a couple neighbors in the building, am waiting for Mohammed to arrive with whatever he could find from my list and have begun my blog post. And it’s only 10:30 (AM – same day).

Perfect end to a perfect day

I’m hoping this burst of energy and focus will not fade away in the next hour. So on my ToDo list for balance of day is: 1) Go to Publix to get all those things Mohammed couldn’t get at Fresh Market. 2) Clean off (file) papers on my desk and floor and begin to reorganize my filing system. 3) Return mail-order swimsuit to Beall’s which reopened yesterday. 4) Go to pool for pool chat with gals and some water aerobics. 4) Work on my Swedish Family Cookbook. 5) Work on the scarf I began knitting in August. 6) Call friends. 7) Have a cocktail during sunset. (I think I can combine 6 & 7 – maybe 5, 6 & 7.).

So there you have my plan for the day. Please notice – no where have I included a nap! But then tomorrow’s another day.
